EPCIT is a sole-trader with expertise in many aspects of development from network and hardware infrastructure to internet and desktop applications
Geographical location/positioning is a feature that has been implented with HTML5 which allows mobile devices with a GPS and browser that supports HTML5 geolocation calls, to make an approximation of your position.
A second set of calls is made to use repetative tri-angulation to increase the accuracy.
EPCIT currently does not store any GPS data from users but in future intends to allow users to plot travel times, determine where other account logins occurred and other similar uses, in no way will we use or sell this data for marketing purposes.
All data gathered on this site will be stored under the Australian Privacy Act for all members.
Please note that many desktop browsers will report a GPS location however the accuracy for these is considerably low. Rapid page changes and refreshes may cause the GPS data to return an error.
If this occurs ensure the auto-refresh feature is turned off and wait up to 60 seconds then refresh the page or turn auto-refresh back on.
This module has removed from current developments and will be reinstated in future versions.
QR Codes are the new way to exchange data using mobile "smart" devices. A square barcode can be created containing any data you wish to share, simply create a QR code, save it as an image and share it with others.
The QR codes used throughout the EPCIT website is created at http://www.bath.ac.uk/barcodes/create.php
EPCIT has placed QR Code generation scripts which make a request to the above website for the QR code image, the images are not stored on the EPCIT server for any reason other than when server-side caching occurs. It is in no way in our intent to take credit for the QR code images created and will always remain as an image with the source tag pointing to the creation site while the QR code scripts are unavaible to the public domain.
Current uses of QR code include but is not limited to the following: URL to EPCIT website, URL to Google maps website with Geo-Location search, URL to User profile page, Text data containing user email address (generated at user request).
