About Geo-Location Data

Geographical location/positioning is a feature that has been implented with HTML5 which allows mobile devices with a GPS and browser that supports HTML5 geolocation calls, to make an approximation of your position.
A second set of calls is made to use repetative tri-angulation to increase the accuracy.

EPCIT currently does not store any GPS data from users but in future intends to allow users to plot travel times, determine where other account logins occurred and other similar uses, in no way will we use or sell this data for marketing purposes.
All data gathered on this site will be stored under the Australian Privacy Act for all members.

Please note that many desktop browsers will report a GPS location however the accuracy for these is considerably low. Rapid page changes and refreshes may cause the GPS data to return an error.
If this occurs ensure the auto-refresh feature is turned off and wait up to 60 seconds then refresh the page or turn auto-refresh back on.

This module has removed from current developments and will be reinstated in future versions.

Current uses of QR code include but is not limited to the following: URL to EPCIT website, URL to Google maps website with Geo-Location search, URL to User profile page, Text data containing user email address (generated at user request).

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Where did you get the awesome icons?

A: All icons were found using a search on the website. All searches used the filter "Free For Commercial Use" to obtain images for a particular key word. The favicon image was created using Adobe Fireworks and has been uploaded to where it has been released under a creative commons licence. If you see one of your images here and do not wish it to be here, please let an admin know and it will be removed immediately.

Q: How do you make those cool gradients?

A: Gradient backgrounds are created in CSS using the extensions available for the various browsers. You can have the CSS rules generated for you using ColorZilla's Gradient Editor

Q: I like the trees but they take to many resources?

A: By default the background canvas will draw up to six (6) trees randomly generated and positioned, this can slow down access to the website in some cases. Several options have been added to decrease the impact of page loads simply add to the url bar the desired options from the list below (e.g: or
  1. highres - Clears settings on canvas
  2. lowres - Only 2 small trees drawn to canvas,
  3. ultralowres - Only 1 small tree drawn to canvas
  4. static - No redraw.

Q: I am still getting all trees, what am I doing wrong?

A: The options are a query string sent to the website. The query string follows the website URL in the form: ?option1=value1&option2=value2
For these options a value is not required and the presence of the identifier in the query string will enable its feature.
You can ensure the query string is in the correct format by adding =1 to the options. Ensure the string only contains a '?' for the first option/value pair, all other options should be preceeded by '&'
